Fans can now pre-save the hauntingly beautiful, “Forever,” a bilingual release from two-time Tejano Music Awards Female Vocalist of the Year and Latin Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Destiny Navaira.
Navaira, as most know, is the daughter of Tejano artist, Raulito, and niece of late Tejano icon, Emilio. Like her famous uncle, she has set ambitious goals for her career that this romantic song should help her reach.
“I’m playing with a fusion of sounds, and I think ‘Forever’ marks that moment for me,” Destiny tells Tejano Nation. “I want to be a mainstream artist invited to Premio lo Nuestros, the Latín AMAs, things like that, and I want to do it authentically. I know it takes time, but I feel with this song, I’m coming into my own.”
“Forever,” which Destiny sings with a sweet but strong voice, marks the first time singing in English as a solo artist. She wrote the song with her brother, Rigo Navaira, who is currently working on his solo debut album. “Forever” was produced by Alfonso Poncho Herrera.
The song is scheduled for release on May 17, 2024, the night before Destiny’s 32nd birthday, as the first single from her upcoming third album.
“I wanted to incorporate English into a song, but something that native Spanish speakers could still understand,” she said.
Destiny’s Texas roots emerge in her voice when she sings in English.
“It does feel a little different, but definitely a comfortable transition,” she said, about singing in another language. “I love how you can hear my Texan accent when I sing in English. I love this song because I feel like it’s the beginning of me truly representing my Mexican American culture.”
As for the rest of her album, expect to hear her American influences, a bit of R&B, Norteño, and of course, Tejano.” Her third album will also feature some collaborations currently in the works.
